In April 2015 I co-founded a small indie game-dev business. In between time spent making our first game and our 'usual' jobs I also somehow found time to develop a style for our new brand.
The idea was to create something fun but not to the point of cheesy.
I tried out a number of colour palettes but eventually ended up going for my first choice - tones of red and orange with pops of blue and yellow. This was mainly based around the 'Pootikat' and my desire to make it a little 'foxy'. This also made it easy to choose our main brand colour #FF8340, a clear and colourful orange that isn't too over the top. This is the accent colour used throughout our branding and as the feature colour on our website www.pootikatproductions.com Our secondary accent colour is black - used for all text, icons and flairs.
As I'm not really a graphic designer/branding expert, I'm not entirely sure an 'accent texture' is a real term, but if it were, ours would be the pale wood texture that is used where required to give an image a 'realistic background'. We have used it in the background of a number of images and especially for gameplay screenshots.
We also developed a simplified logo which is a stripped down version of the larger, full colour circle logo. It consists of just the facial expression of our 'pootikat' and the text of the company name. This can also be split into just the face as a logo or the text on its own, such as on potential business cards
Despite the fact that we still don't actually have a Mission Statement per se, the general idea of the brand has come together quite well. We have used similar visuals - pale wood background, and shiny devices to create a variety of marketing visuals for our first game, such as gameplay screenshots and blog images.
